If you feel like you’re using a legacy data protection solution or simply wish you could switch to a secure solution that is both modern and easier to use, you’re not alone. Druva has been on the road, physically and virtually, meeting with groups of companies to discuss the challenges they face in Escaping Legacy Data Protection. These events offer a fun, consultative approach, in a group setting to prioritize challenges and discuss methods for solving them. Unfortunately, we never have time to dive into the details of the economic value of the Druva Cloud. This is why I’m glad to share a recently completed Forrester Total Economic Impact (TEI) report that does an excellent job of calculating the ROI of the Druva Data Security Cloud based on interviews with four customers.
Forrester study determines Druva delivers an ROI of 224% and an NPV of $1.2M
The Forrester TEI report can be a useful aid to help organizations build a business case for switching off legacy data protection solutions for three key reasons. First, the Forrester TEI report is based on an established methodology and is performed at arm’s length from Druva. We provide customer contacts to Forrester and they perform interviews independent of Druva. Second, the report generates an ROI and provides a bottom’s up model with both quantified and unquantified benefits that can be leveraged by you. Third, while I think total cost of ownership (TCO) is an excellent way to understand costs, ROI goes one step beyond TCO by capturing incremental value.
Challenges
The challenges that the four interviewed organizations faced before switching to Druva mirror many of those I encounter in our events with customers and may mirror what you face. A summary of the key challenges includes:
Complex infrastructure challenges across multiple data sources (data center, cloud, SaaS)
Infrastructure scalability and management challenges
Unnecessary vulnerabilities and cyber security risks (e.g., near-misses or successful attacks)
Expensive and inefficient data storage
“We were spending so much time doing [a number of] things that [were] unrelated to really supporting the technology initiatives of the business.” — Chief Technology Officer, Engineering & Architecture
Future Goals & Requirements
The customers interviewed had diverse data sources (data center, endpoints, cloud, and SaaS applications) and wanted to ensure data availability, simplify management, and improve data security. These organizations saw value in Druva because it offered a cloud-native solution built for — and on — an accessible, data security-sensitive public cloud. By centralizing data in a secure cloud, these organizations hoped to improve how thinly stretched teams could operate and respond to business needs. In particular, ransomware and cyber threats loomed large. These organizations recognized that operational resilience required an ability to recover clean data quickly in coordination with their security teams.
“[Regarding ransomware protection], Druva does all this stuff in the background to keep the backup safe and also [performs] scans to [check] if the backups [are] compromised and then [takes action], such as putting it in a sandbox.” — Security It Systems Engineer, Engineering & Architecture
Capturing the Value of Druva Data Security
Along with benefits including enhanced security and resiliency, simplification of disaster recovery, and ease of deployment and management, Forrester captured the following quantified benefits of the Druva Data Security Cloud:
Decreased legacy solution and cloud service costs by over $812k
Averted business loss from ransomware worth $761k
Improved backup and restore efficiencies worth $166k
Forrester aggregated the interviewees’ experiences and combined the results into a hypothetical “composite organization.” Resembling the interviewees’ experience, the composite organization leverages Druva to back up 100s of terabytes (TB) of data, with data growing 10% annually. After extensive financial analysis, Forrester found that following the implementation of Druva, the composite organization saved $1.74 million over three years versus total expenditures (backup subscription, implementation, management, and administration, etc.) of $536,253, which add up to a net present value (NPV) of $1.20 million, and an ROI of 224%.
Leave behind the cost, complexity, and security challenges of legacy data protection. Read Forrester’s new Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study for the full findings and advantages of using the industry’s first and only 100% Data Security Cloud.
