AI Is Here to Hire: 4 Tips to Help You Stand Out in Today’s Job Market

Ira Merchant , Sr. Manager, Talent Acquisition

Lately, I’ve been deep in the HR and talent space, and one thing is clear—AI is everywhere. It’s the theme of every panel, every coffee chat, every Slack thread. You’ll hear things like “AI can impact 13+ touchpoints in the hiring process” or how it’ll create roles we haven’t even imagined yet.

The way we present ourselves, prepare for interviews, and even think about our careers is shifting. It’s not just about having the right experience—it’s about mindset, adaptability, and how you show up in this new landscape.

It’s clear AI is here to stay—so how can you, as a job candidate, adapt to the evolving market?

Here’s my take on key mindset and behaviour shifts to adapt prepping for interviews or applying to roles in this new world:

4 Tips to Help You Stand Out in Today’s Job Market

1) Optimize Your Resume

Think algorithmically—and optimize your resume for both humans and machines. If there are more AI resume screening, take that into consideration and plan accordingly. For example, you can tailor your resume to the job description and use clear job titles and relevant keywords. It can also help to stick to simple formatting and exclude graphics or tables.

2) Embrace New Interview Formats And Learn the Tech

Some companies use one-way video interviews—no live interviewer, just you and the screen. It can help to practice in front of a camera, where you can practice answering with clarity and confidence while being mindful of body language. Remember: Don’t slouch, and try to look at the camera, not your notes! Seeing yourself in a camera frame can also help you customize your “video environment,” so you have the optimal lighting, background, and internet connection.

If you want to take it a step further, you can also practice with mock video tools or AI simulators. Overall, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the various platforms companies might use, so you aren’t caught off guard if there is one you haven’t used before.

3) Be Authentic

Whether it’s an AI screened step or a live human interview, what stands out is authenticity. Tell stories that show emotional intelligence, not just hard skills. Questions like,“Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult teammate” or “How do you respond to critical feedback?” are designed to uncover your self-awareness, empathy, and resilience. Reflecting on moments like these ahead of time helps you frame responses that feel real, grounded, and aligned with what employers value in today’s dynamic work environment.

Express motivation and curiosity. Ironically, the more AI is involved, the more human-like qualities like empathy, adaptability, and collaboration stand out.

4) Invest in Continuous Learning and Digital Agility

In today’s rapidly evolving job market, showcasing your ability to learn and adapt is just as important as your experience. One powerful way to do this? Highlight your commitment to upskilling. Whether it’s through platforms like Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, or industry-recognized certifications, including these efforts on your resume sends a clear message: you’re proactive, curious, and ready for what’s next.

But it doesn’t stop there. Stay engaged with how AI and emerging technologies are reshaping your field. Demonstrating that you're not just keeping up, but actively paying attention, signals that you’re future-ready and growth-oriented.

Finally, be ready to speak to how you’ve responded to change. In a world where agility is becoming as valuable as expertise, the ability to pivot, adapt, and learn on the fly can set you apart from the pack.
