Frequently Asked Questions

  • Basic Information

inSync SafePoint is a simple, lightweight, effective data loss prevention (DLP) solution for laptops. Available as an optional, add-on module within Druva inSync (both On-Premise and Cloud), SafePoint provides a powerful, multi-layered protection solution for critical data.

Traditional DLP solutions pose limitations and challenges in 3 ways –

    • Prohibitively Expensive – Most DLP solutions are out of reach in terms of the excessive costs needed to purchase, deploy and maintain them.
    • Complex to Deploy – The more distributed your workforce is, the greater is the complexity in implementing centralized policies for backup, restore, encryption and data shredding. Most DLP solutions require an ERP-like deployment process, making it harder for the administrator to drive policies across devices.
    • Interfering with End-User Productivity – Present-day DLP solutions are at odds with end-user productivity since they are too heavyweight, cause slow performance, and are intrusive to users’ work.

    Unlike traditional solutions, SafePoint is:

    • Less expensive (a Symantec DLP solutions costs approx. $45000; SafePoint is at least 10x cheaper)
    • Simple to deploy (it installs along with inSync 4.2 and just requires a license to turn on)
    • Simple to configure and use (SafePoint attributes are part of the same user profiles used to configure backups and restores)
    • Transparent to end-users (absolutely no extra steps required of end-users, no performance hit).

  • Deletion

A Remote Data Delete operation does exactly what it says; it remotely deletes critical data from devices that are lost or stolen. With this feature, an admin can remotely wipe out all critical data on lost laptops, so data does not end up in the wrong hands.

Once activated through the Web management console, a Remote Delete (aka decommission) process executes when the marked device comes online. At that time, the inSync agent wipes out all critical data (the same data marked for backup and encryption). The data delete operation meets NSA security standards for secure data deletes.

Since Remotely Delete wipes out the same data that’s configured for backup, the deleted data will always be available for access and restore through inSync’s Web restore feature.

The Auto Delete operation only deletes data that’s configured for backup, so the deleted data will still be available for access and restore through inSync’s Web restore feature.

  • Geolocation

The frequency of device trace is the same as your device backup frequency.

The accuracy is within 10-20 meters in the US and reasonably close in other geographies.

  • Pricing/Compatibility

Other data leakage features such as port access control and usage logs are planned for future releases.

SafePoint is available in inSync 4.2 as a separately-licensed module. Contact us through our Website for a free 30-day trial.

SafePoint can be enabled and disabled for each user profile. To disable SafePoint for a specific profile, go to the SafePoint section of the profile and disable the function.

Yes, SafePoint works on both Windows and Mac platforms. While the Windows edition offers a full feature set, the Mac edition doesn’t provide encryption in Version 1.0. All other features work on Mac. A full feature set for Mac is planned very soon.
