Druva Hackathon 2019: A Look Into Innovation and Creativity

Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi said, “Innovation is seeing what everyone has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.” That was the motto Druva followed at this year’s hackathon. For those of you that are unfamiliar, Druva Hackathon is a 24-hour, non-stop sprint event in which software engineers and others involved in software development collaborate intensively on hacking away on their innovations. The idea is to push the boundaries of excellence, think creatively, and innovate in ways never thought possible. This year was extra special, as our CTO and co-founder, Milind Borate, also participated and helped inspire teams to push their goals and ideas as far as possible.

The event was broken down into different tracks: DevOps, Automathon, Cost Optimization, Cross-Product Integration, Explorers’, and the Open Track, where teams created their hacks to innovate and demonstrate their ideas. Just like in past hackathons, the winning entry in each track received a cash prize and the overall winner receives a grand prize. There were more than 150 participants with 65 ideas submitted this year from across the globe, and needless to say, the jury had a lot of deliberations to do!

Our jury had a number of criteria for selecting the best idea, including ease of deployment, potential impact, ability to delight customers, innovative approach and of course, overall originality.

After a long night, the Hackathon was concluded with an award ceremony. The team whose idea blew everyone’s mind? Team InSync Assistant. The idea? A machine learning-powered assistant to help Druva admins/users in getting things done and explore the Admin Panel better.

As for the track winners, each team focused on a specific idea, including: enhancing the build process to perform static code analysis, solving for the ability to search for Salesforce records and files based on object attributes, to building a visual dashboard of all the functionality offered by different Druva products.

This year’s Druva Hackathon was a combination of imagination, creativity, brilliance, collaboration, and fun of all things. Until we continue the tradition next year, we will keep creating and pushing the boundaries.
