Source Based Global Data Deduplication for Server Backup - Druva Phoenix

Source Based Global Data Deduplication

Within an enterprise over 80% of data is duplicated across different servers. Druva Phoenix uses source based data deduplication to remove block level duplicates from backups across different servers.

The Phoenix backup agent continuously monitors and captures file level changes. Before performing the backup, it uses patent pending advanced file fingerprinting to check with the server, if the file or even a part of it has already been backed up before (by same or any other agent). And then sends only the unique content to the server. The server just maintains only a single copy of duplicated data and multiple references.

Example:

A Microsoft Exchange server data store contains same 1 MB email attachment from 1000 different users. The traditional incremental backup software would backup this 1 MB attachment from each of the 1000 different mail boxes. Druva Phoenix agent would backup 1 MB from the first mailbox, and then skip all the other 999 copies as duplicates. Saving 99.9% backup time, bandwidth and storage.

Benefits

Saves over 90% backup time, bandwidth and storage.
Makes backups smaller and faster especially for remote servers
