Technical Details
Data is more dispersed and diverse than before. This poses two major challenges to remote backup – availability of bandwidth and quality of connectivity.
The new, redesigned Octopus WAN optimization engine analyzes available networks and optimizes the data transfer for latency and packet size.
New ‘Octopus’ WAN Optimization Engine
The new Octopus engine queries the available network for noise, latency and optimal packet size.
Based on the results it chooses the packet size and spawns up to 8 threads on same network socket to make the best use of the available bandwidth.
It also ensures that the backup is automatically resumed when interrupted over a weak network.
The administrator can further control the amount of bandwidth used by putting smart bandwidth caps to only use a fraction of available bandwidth for backups.
