Pioneer in Protecting Data at Network Edge Is One of Seven Finalists in Field of Backup and Disaster Recovery Software and Services

Mountain View, Calif. – Jan. 26, 2012 – Druva, a pioneer in enterprise endpoint data protection and retrieval, today announced that its inSync Enterprise solution has been named one of seven finalists for the product of the year competition in the Backup and Disaster Recovery Software and Services category by Storage Magazine and SearchStorage.com. This category includes backup and recovery software, cloud backup and recovery services, disaster recovery, snapshot and replication, electronic vaulting and archivers.

“The selection of inSync as a finalist is a tribute to its power and simplicity. Our solution provides secure, non-intrusive backups and saves over 90 percent in bandwidth and storage. We provide enterprises with instant data access for laptops and mobile devices plus integrated data loss protection,” said Jaspreet Singh, chairman and CEO of Druva. “We’re truly honored to have gained such recognition from the storage industry’s top product competition.”

Druva inSync’s Enterprise solution, introduced on February 2, 2011, is an industry-first application that solves a major – and previously unresolved – challenge: 73 percent of laptop users have cited intrusive backups as a major obstacle to productivity. Druva inSync’s lightweight, source-based application-aware deduplication solves this problem, recognizing the storage habits of individual applications and supporting the most efficient deduplication of their associated files. As a result, a single storage server can back up 10 times as many users as competitive offerings, slash storage expenses by 90 percent and maximize ROI, while providing 100 percent deduplication accuracy for Outlook and Office applications. Druva inSync’s Enterprise software is also optimized for use of SSDs for increased performance and scalability. In addition, inSync enables simple one-click restores of any file or backup volume from a Web browser, iPhone, iPad or Android-based device, offers unobtrusive backups over any network – LAN, WAN or VPN – and is WAN-optimized for the mobile user.

Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com have chosen 48 enterprise data storage products in six categories as finalists for the 2011 Products of the Year competition. The panel of judges selected these finalists from nearly 200 entries in the six data storage categories: backup and disaster recovery software and services, backup hardware, networking equipment, storage management tools, storage systems, and storage system software.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 29, 2011 – Druva, Inc., a pioneer in enterprise endpoint data protection, today announced it has reached 1,000 enterprise customers worldwide and its inSync solution is now protecting critical data on more than 500,000 endpoints. Recent customer wins include Hearst Corporation, PWC, Deloitte, KPMG and the United Nations. Druva’s inSync software continues to set a new benchmark for enterprise endpoint data protection, including support for smartphones and tablets.

“Prior to deploying inSync, we had nearly 500 users distributed over three locations, which created management challenges with the backup process as well as with bandwidth consumption and end user performance degradation,” said Christakis Themistocli, director of information technology services at Deloitte in Cyprus. “Druva allowed us to consolidate all of our backups and offered a single management interface that could be accessed by multiple administrators. We also solved our bandwidth challenge with inSync’s advanced deduplication technology, which, coupled with minimal incremental backups, meant our end users weren’t affected by backups and neither was our network performance.”

Over the last several months, Druva developed numerous improvements to inSync, with a focus on protecting endpoint data and expanding beyond backup to include these features:

inSync Cloud – an enterprise-grade online backup solution that offers secure, lightning-fast backups to a virtual private cloud powered by Amazon Web Services. inSync Cloud offers automatic mass deployment to global laptops, with central management of policies and data across multiple global regions. It also provides high availability, with 99.5 percent uptime and 99.999999999 percent durability, making it optimal for large enterprises.

SafePoint – a <a href=""www.druva.com/safepoint">data loss prevention (DLP) solution for laptop computers and other endpoint devices that offers file-level encryption, NSA-class remote data wipe-out and pinpoint device trace. It is proven to reduce total cost of operations by approximately 10 times in comparison with competitive DLP offerings.

Advanced Data Insights for E-Discovery – a solution that allows enterprise IT customers to gain increased visibility into data stored and shared across all enterprise endpoints, enabling them to locate files or folders in any device by name, type, recency or size. It also provides a summary of file composition across endpoints by file type and size, as well as of aggregate and per-user storage consumption.

“Druva continues to address the key pain points that enterprises face in protecting one of their most valuable assets – data on mobile devices,” said Robert Amatruda, research director, data protection and recovery, at analyst firm IDC. “Druva adds value by granting administrators key insights into their data while allowing global deployment of their software from a single console, thus simplifying adoption across the enterprise.”

A recent ESG Lab report validated inSync’s claims, including its ease of installation, as well as the benefits of its application-aware global deduplication, WAN optimization and efficient client-side processing, which provides data protection at 90 percent savings in bandwidth and data stored. ESG Lab was able to install a 50MB executable file on the server and configure the network in 20 minutes.

The company also recently announced it received $12 million in a Series B round of funding. The round was led by Nexus Venture Partners; existing investor Sequoia Capital also contributed to the round.

SNW Europe, Frankfurt, Germany, 1st November 2011 – Druva, a pioneer in enterprise endpoint data protection, today unveiled inSync Advanced Data Insights, allowing enterprise IT customers to gain increased visibility into data stored and shared across all enterprise endpoints. Druva’s latest product introduction fills the gap for an effective yet affordable solution that enables insights into enterprise data through aggregate and per-user summary information, advanced search capability to locate any file on any laptop, reporting, and alert notifications.

Many IT administrators today are virtually blind to the details of data stored on their corporate laptops and other endpoint devices. Druva’s newest addition to its portfolio provides them insights into enterprise endpoint data by enabling them to locate files or folders in any device by name, type, recency, or size. It also provides a summary of file composition across endpoints, by file type and size, as well as aggregate and per-user storage consumption. Using inSync, an IT administrator could now instantly locate all employees who have a copy of a specific confidential financial report by issuing a simple search.

Jaspreet Singh, CEO at Druva, is confident that inSync’s Advanced Data Insights will give IT professionals more control over enterprise data stored on laptops. “The ability to quickly locate data and analyze usage can have a direct impact on compliance, productivity and optimization of IT resources. And yet the majority of organizations today have only a limited knowledge of what kind of files employees are storing on their laptops and who has access to which files. Our new data insights capability empowers organizations to go beyond data protection and lay the foundation for an effective e-discovery strategy.”

A federated search across multiple laptops allows IT administrators to identify a wide range of data usage and ownership patterns, which would be largely impossible to achieve otherwise. This capability allows data leakage issues to be identified and solved in real time. inSync’s Advanced Data Insights also offers more effective IT resource planning thanks to highly comprehensive data analysis features.

Multi-platform Solution Protects Critical Data, Saves over 90 Percent Bandwidth and Provides Instant Access Across Smartphones and Tablets

Mountain View, Calif. – Oct. 6, 2011 – Druva, a pioneer in enterprise laptop backup and retrieval, today announced that the University of California at Davis (UC Davis) has chosen Druva inSync as its solution for laptop backup. Responding to the unique requirements for laptop data needs and security in higher education, Druva’s inSync protects data for office and remote users campus-wide with simple backup, point-in-time restores, and patent-pending data deduplication technology. Druva’s technology resulted in speeding backups by 10 times while using 90 percent less storage than competing solutions.

“With the rapid expansion of laptops and mobile devices on university campuses, new strategies for data backup and recovery are required,” said Jaspreet Singh, CEO of Druva. “UC Davis selected Druva to address the unique challenges of a small IT staff struggling with the management of the laptop backup process across a widely distributed environment.”

Druva’s auto-deploy client empowers users not only to backup and restore their own data—but also lets IT know if someone is not backing up data or if a client has stalled, so he can intervene. The school had found that many of their users avoided backing up their systems because they had bad experiences with the performance impact of other solutions. But with Druva inSync, the backup process is virtually invisible to them. In addition, inSync provides weekly reports of all backup processes so UC Davis can manage all aspects of the backup proactively to ensure coverage of all PCs.

Druva uses data deduplication technology as the key driver to improving bandwidth and reducing costly storage space. It works because inSync saves only a single copy of emails/attachments duplicated across users, no matter how many times users send it around. This is in contrast to other laptop backup systems that back up every email and every attachment for every user.

About UC Davis
For more than 100 years, UC Davis has engaged in teaching, research and public service that matter to California and transform the world. Located close to the state capital, UC Davis has more than 32,000 students, more than 2,500 faculty and more than 21,000 staff, an annual research budget that exceeds $678 million, a comprehensive health system and 13 specialized research centers. The university offers interdisciplinary graduate study and more than 100 undergraduate majors in four colleges — Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering, and Letters and Science. It also houses six professional schools — Education, Law, Management, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing.

Mountain View, Calif. — Sept. 28, 2011

Druva, a pioneer in enterprise laptop backup and retrieval, today announced the results of an ESG Lab report*. The report validates Druva inSync’s ease of installation as well as the benefits of its application-aware global deduplication, WAN optimization and efficient client-side processing that provides data protection at 90 percent savings in bandwidth and data stored.

Key findings from the report include:

ESG Lab was able to install the 50MB executable file on the server and configure the network in 20 minutes, so began protecting local and remote Windows and Mac clients with minimal effort and no impact to user’s normal workflows within 20 minutes of sitting down at the keyboard of the server.

While Druva inSync protected 1,1013 GB over the course of the test, it backed up just 38 GB, providing a 96 percent reduction in storage requirements and a deduplication ratio of 26:1.

On the inSync server, all processes combined consumed just 11 percent of the CPU and 140 megabytes of RAM (similarly low resource consumption was observed on the end user side).

Bare metal restore was fast and efficient, reconstituting a full restore image using multiple deduplicated backups and enabling recreation of a complete Windows workstation, including all installed applications and user data in less than 15 minutes.

“Simplifying endpoint data backup and more importantly, recovery for administrators and users creates significant value for widely dispersed IT environments with an increasingly mobile workforce. ESG Lab has tested many offerings and we found that Druva inSync is one of the most complete endpoint data protection solutions available for the enterprise,” said Tony Palmer, senior engineer at ESG Lab. “Druva inSync offers critical features that provide enterprises with the functionality, reliability and flexibility that they need—in a low-cost package. ESG research indicates that cost and impact to performance are two of the leading considerations when evaluating disk-based data deduplicated backup solutions. The ability to efficiently deduplicate data across all users’ backups with client-side processing addresses both of these issues. No business can afford to operate without a backup and recovery solution–and Druva inSync ensures that every business can afford a compelling one.”

“ESG Lab is one the most trusted sources of research and information in the storage market and their study confirms the same benefits our customers are seeing,” said Jaspreet Singh, CEO of Druva. “Enterprises are seeking to protect vital information stored on endpoints and are recognizing that Druva inSync’s unique approach to data deduplication and WAN optimization, packaged in a solution that’s easy to install and-manage, provides 90 percent bandwidth and storage savings and simplified data access across all devices including smartphones and tablets.”

ESG Lab Report: Druva inSync
ESG Lab performed hands-on evaluation and testing of Druva’s inSync Server and client software in a lab environment that consisted of one Druva inSync Enterprise Server and several Windows and Mac endpoints at ESG Lab’s own users’ home and office locations throughout the San Francisco Bay area.

Excerpts from the report include:

“Providing an easy to implement, capacity and bandwidth-efficient disk-to-disk solution for data protection is a powerful value proposition for companies looking to protect their local and remote endpoint devices. With a simple to use GUI and a very efficient memory and CPU footprint, Druva inSync Enterprise requires no special training or expertise for IT administrators.”

“Through hands-on testing, ESG Lab validated the ease of use and consistent management functions for backup and recovery of local and remote users, including physical and virtual Windows and Macintosh systems performing multiple simultaneous deduplicated backups of heterogeneous systems with little to no impact on clients. Bare metal restore was particularly fast and efficient, reconstituting a full restore image using multiple deduplicated backups and enabling recreation of a complete Windows workstation, including all installed applications and user data in less than 15 minutes.”

“ESG Lab has validated that data deduplication provided by Druva inSync can be used to reduce disk capacity significantly with minimal impact to client or server resources. Administrators can effectively provide high performance backup services to remote users, plus fast and reliable restores, using greatly reduced disk capacity. This lowers the cost per GB for backup data and enables companies to retain larger numbers of users’ data exponentially longer while minimizing the impact of deduplication on users’ workflows.”

“Organizations are looking for cost effective, easy to manage solutions for endpoint data protection. ESG Lab was able to deploy a new Druva inSync server and begin protecting users’ desktops and laptops in 20 minutes. With enterprise class distributed data deduplication and user management built in to a low cost package, Druva delivers a compelling solution for businesses of all sizes.”

Mountain View, Calif. – Sept. 14, 2011

New Upgrades Deliver Instant Global Provisioning, Global Administration, Enterprise-Scale Security and High Availability

– Druva, a pioneer in enterprise end-point backup and retrieval, today announced enhancements to inSync Cloud, its fully-automated enterprise-grade laptop backup solution that offers secure, lightning-fast backups to a virtual private cloud powered by Amazon Web Services. The new enhancements that make inSync Cloud optimal for enterprise-wide global deployment are automatic mass deployment to global laptops, central management of policies and data across multiple global regions, and high availability, with 99.5% uptime and 99.999999999% durability.

This latest release solves common IT backup challenges with an automated deployment feature that leverages utilities such as Active Directory, Microsoft SCCM and Casper (JAMF software) to instantly deploy inSync to global users without requiring their involvement. Backups then run automatically, securely protecting every user’s data. This latest release also allows administrators to instantly provision inSync Cloud across multiple global regions and manage global users and storage regions from a single Web console. Other enhancements include a new elastic cloud architecture that delivers higher availability through replication of instances across zones and on-demand storage expansion that enables enterprises to expand storage capacity and user numbers globally, with no limits.

“There are two major issues that should concern enterprises regarding backing up data stored on endpoint devices. First, users may interrupt scheduled backup processes at the first hint of their system being sluggish. The second is that current backup SaaS models offer little, if any, guarantee in terms of availability of data that has been backed up,” said Lauren Whitehouse senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “Druva solved this issue by offering enhancements that allow IT managers to instantly push out backup policies transparently to endpoints that cannot be tampered with by users, and providing enterprise-scale SLAs.”

“The weak link in any laptop backup system has always been that most users don’t install backup programs and won’t remember to run them at regular intervals. When employees fail to back up data, enterprises risk losing critical data, customer goodwill, and even their competitive advantage,” said Jaspreet Singh, CEO of Druva. “With this release, we’re catering to enterprises with thousands of laptops spread across geographies that are struggling with how to keep their corporate data protected. Today we have the answer to this problem by combining instant mass provisioning with centralized global management, global deduplication, virtual private cloud, and enterprise-scale SLAs for continuous data protection and restores.”

Built for the Enterprise, Deployed in the Cloud
The new version of inSync Cloud includes additional enhancements and new features including:

•	Enterprise-scale SLAs to deliver continuous data protection and quick access and restore of data from a Web browser or mobile device (iPad/iPhone/Android).

Enhanced security with patent-pending distributed encryption key management, 256-bit AES encryption, secure HTTPS mode for server GUI, and strict data. compartmentalization using Cassandra keyspace, S3 buckets, and RDS access credentials.

Elastic scalability with a multi-tier architecture and multi-zone replication to support growth across any region.

High availability, 99.5% uptime, and 99.99999% durability.

Global deduplication across all users to minimize storage consumption and reduce costs

inSync SafePoint for the Cloud a data loss prevention add-on module with data encryption, device geo-location and auto/remote data wipe-off features to protect laptop data.

Multi-device access so a user can access files and folders from multiple devices using the inSync client application.

Administrator file downloads so an administrator can download user files and folders to any machine using a Web browser.

Pricing and Availability

39 Percent of Enterprise Workers Use Laptops as Their Primary System, Yet 64 Percent of Enterprises Do Not Have a Backup Policy.

Druva, a pioneer in enterprise laptop backup and retrieval, today announced results of a survey conducted across the United States that revealed over 64 percent of respondents do not have a laptop backup policy. The reasons for this varied, although 70 percent did think that a laptop backup policy was necessary, and another 28 percent plan to implement one in future. These statistics indicate that organizations have started to take data stored on laptops seriously however, are still leaving data vulnerable to loss and not taking the risk seriously.

According to a Ponemon Institute report commissioned by Intel, the average cost of a lost or stolen laptop is $50,000, with worst-case scenarios reaching close to $1,000,000. Conversely, in the Druva survey, 44 percent of respondents thought the cost of a lost or stolen laptop was less than $10,000, and one-third of respondents believed the loss was negligible. Only 11 percent of respondents have realistic expectations as to the cost of a lost laptop, responding it would cost more than $30,000. The responses in this survey point to a large gap in perceived costs versus real costs.

There were other findings from the survey that point to a lack of control over laptop data protection including the fact that 18 percent do not have the ability to retrieve files from a lost laptop or catastrophic failure. Also, 40 percent of respondents believe that it would take at least one day or longer to retrieve files from a lost laptop or catastrophic failure.

“This survey demonstrates that corporate IT is ignoring a gaping hole, which is the need to protect data stored on laptops in the enterprise. There is a sizeable gap between what IT believes the cost of a lost laptop is versus the reality, and IT is not taking it seriously,” said Jaspreet Singh, founder and CEO of Druva. “Unprotected laptops bring both financial and security risks to an organization, and ignoring the issue is not strategic. Companies need a truly complete laptop backup and data protection solution that takes the guesswork out of what might happen in the future and gives the control to IT, where it belongs.” Additional Key Survey Findings:

46 percent are likely or very likely to consider cloud-based/SaaS offerings for endpoint protection in the next six to 12 months

44 percent believe that simple-to-install configuration and management is the number-one priority when choosing a laptop backup solution

36 percent say a non-intrusive end-user experience is the number-one priority in a laptop backup solution

31 percent say bandwidth and storage savings are their number-one priority in a laptop backup solution

57 percent do not have a data protection solution such as data encryption, remote delete, location trace, or anything else

Over 25 percent of respondents plan on implementing a data protection solution within the next two years

Survey Methodology

The independent survey asked 140 IT managers their opinions of laptop backup in organizations conducting business in the US.

Lightweight, Cost-Effective and Completely User Transparent, Druva SafePoint™ Offers File-level Encryption, Remote Data Wipe-out, and Pinpoint Device Trace.

Druva, a pioneer in enterprise laptop backup and retrieval, today announcedDruva SafePoint™,a data loss prevention (DLP) solution for laptop computers and other mobile devices that offers file-level encryption, NSA-class remote data wipe-out, and pinpoint device trace, at a price affordable for all businesses. Addressing staggering industry data-loss figures – over $49,000 in total economic impact for a lost or stolen laptop – SafePoint reduces those costs to the single cost of replacing the device and provisioning it for use. In addition, SafePoint has been proven to reduce total cost of operation – including purchase, deployment, and maintenance – by approximately 10 times in comparison with competitive data loss prevention offerings.

As first-order protection against data breaches, SafePoint allows file-level encryption of critical data on endpoints. Administrators can implement a simple yet effective policy to encrypt the files and folders that have been identified for backup. Encryption and decryption are completely transparent to end-users, requiring no additional steps or passwords. SafePoint leverages Windows’ Encrypting File System, which implements a 256-bit AES algorithm for file encryption.

“There are currently no companies in the laptop data protection market that can offer an effective backup and data loss prevention solution in a simple way. To implement a working solution, IT administrators are forced to patch multiple products together, therefore increasing the complexity,” said Deni Connor, founding analyst at Storage Strategies NOW. “Druva’s inSync SafePoint offers additional features to the inSync family of products that will provide a truly complete endpoint data protection solution. Druva offers a single interface, allowing companies to not only protect against the loss of sensitive data when a laptop is lost or stolen, but also prevent that data from being compromised by unauthorized sources.”

SafePoint further enables an administrator to “decommission” any device by initiating a remote data wipe-out operation to shred critical data on the lost or stolen device when itcomes online. The data delete operation, which meets NSA security standards, protects lost or stolen devices from data breach. Optionally, the administrator can set up a time-based auto delete trigger on devices to self-destruct of the device dataif the device does notconnect with the inSync server for a specified number of days. Administrators can set up alerts on the server to be notified of impending deletes.

Adding another layer of protection, SafePoint provides device trace information that determines the location of devices with accuracies of between 10 and 20 meters for enabled endpoints. To quickly and reliably derive accurate location results, SafePoint’s software-only solution collects raw data from Wi-Fi access points, GPS satellites and cell towers, using advanced hybrid positioning algorithms.

With SafePoint, Druva has addressed the complexity of traditional endpoint-protection technology that is either prohibitively expensive, complex to deploy and maintain, or difficult for mobile-device owners to use. It installs as an optional module on top of Druva’s inSync, the industry’s leading automated backup and restore solution.

Centralized management. SafePoint’s single, centralized management console for all endpoint data protection features vastly simplifies administrative requirements

Complete user transparency. Endpoint protection requires no user involvement, and encryption and decryption are automated

End user productivity. SafePoint’s unobtrusive, thin-client software is installed within the client agent andwith no user interaction, and has no effect on device operation or performance

“Our goal with SafePoint is to democratize data loss prevention,” said Jaspreet Singh, founder and CEO of Druva. “Organizations can’t afford to leave their vital intellectual property at risk. Nor can they justify the complexity and high operating costs of bloated enterprise software. With SafePoint, Druva has addressed both issues, and our early-adopter customers cite affordability and immediate deployability as their top gains.”

Interoperability with Druva inSync

For users of Druva inSync Enterprise or Druva inSync Cloud – Druva’s acclaimed device backup and restore utilities – SafePoint is an add-on module offering additional protection. Enterprises that deploy those offerings remain assured of continuous, remote backups of individual devices, while backups are performed automatically at any frequency and without user involvement – and with no effects on device performance. If a device is lost or stolen, SafePoint destroys the data on the device while inSync maintains all device backups, allowing administrators to restore the data to a new device rapidly and to reduce lost user productivity to a minimum.

Pricing and Availability

Druva SafePoint is generally available at the end of May and supports all Windows laptop computers. Full support for Mac clients as well as for mobile devices such as iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android-based devices, and Blackberry devices will be announced during the year. Pricing is $12-$15 per endpoint per year. For more information, contact Druva at (408) 600-2783 or info@druva.com.

Druva, a pioneer in enterprise laptop backup and retrieval, today announced Druva inSync Cloud, a cloud-based, fully automated, enterprise backup solution to offer instant recovery of data from multiple, near-continuous restore points.

Mountain View, Calif. – April 19, 2011

First Enterprise Backup Solution to Offer Recovery Point and Time Objectives in Minutes, Ensure 100-Percent Accuracy in Data Deduplication, Solve the Bandwidth Bottleneck, Require No User Involvement, and Cause No Performance Penalties.

Druva, a pioneer in enterprise laptop backup and retrieval, today announced Druva inSync Cloud, a cloud-based, fully automated, enterprise backup solution to offer instant recovery of data from multiple, near-continuous restore points. As an on-demand offering, Druva inSync Cloud can be deployed rapidly, and enterprises and their users quickly benefit from patented application-aware deduplication and integral WAN optimization that result in 90-percent savings in bandwidth and storage. The application also guarantees 100-percent accuracy in deduplication for backups and restores, not only on individual laptops but on multiple copies of the same data block that may exist on multiple laptops.

Druva InSync Cloud is designed for enterprises that value laptop data protection but need to avoid the complexity and management challenges of conventional data-protection solutions. The application can be deployed for individual users or groups in minutes and once deployed, runs entirely as a background process; it requires no user involvement. Backups are instantaneous and have no affect on laptop performance. With the announcement of InSync Cloud, Druva overcomes a challenge, cited by 73 percent of laptop users across industries, that “intrusive backups” create a major obstacle to personal productivity. The solution also guarantees stringent service-level agreements for availability and durability of backed-up data. The data from any point in the past can be accessed instantaneously over the Internet for a laptop PC, smartphone or tablet and restored in minutes.

“The biggest issues plaguing endpoint data backup is that the responsibility to complete backups can fall on the endpoint user, solutions don’t take remote workers into consideration, and the process can be disruptive to endpoint user productivity,” said Lauren Whitehouse, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “The Druva inSync Cloud SaaS offering addresses these issues by providing policy control to administrators and scheduling control to endpoint users, and optimizing WAN transfer with application-aware deduplication. Druva further differentiates its solution with SLA guarantees for performance and data availability.”

Druva’s patented deduplication technology reduces bandwidth and storage requirements by backing up only unique copies of a file. “That’s important because bandwidth is the biggest bottleneck for cloud-based backups,” said Jaspreet Singh, CEO of Druva. “A company should not be penalized for its storage growth. We’re taking aim at out-of-control bandwidth requirements and storage costs with Druva InSync Cloud.”

Druva InSync Cloud also addresses customer concerns for data security. Customer data is stored on Amazon Web Services’ cloud platform, a highly secure, reliable and robust global technology infrastructure serving hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide. In addition, Druva’s military-grade 256-bit SSL network encryption secures data in flight, and 256-bit AES encryption secures data at rest on the storage server. Furthermore, backups are client-triggered, meaning that the backup server accepts only inbound backup or restore requests and never sends outbound requests.

As with Druva’s on-premises-based inSync Enterprise Laptop backup and restore offering, inSync Cloud delivers on Druva’s “unbreakable backup” pledge, which ensures that backups will succeed even over the weakest WAN links, regardless of real-world network limitations. As IT departments can now deliver complete, highly scalable cloud-based endpoint protection, they can prevent loss of intellectual property in files that have been created on individual laptops and make those files available throughout the enterprise.

Pricing and Availability

Druva inSync Cloud is available now. Pricing starts at $100 per 100GB of deduplicated data per month. For more information, contact Druva at (408) 600-2783 or info@druva.com.

Mountain View, Calif. – February 10, 2011

Application-Aware Deduplication Achieves 100 Percent Accuracy, Makes Backup and Retrieval Nearly Instantaneous, and Supports All Laptops – as Well as iPads and iPhones.

Druva, a pioneer in enterprise data backup and retrieval, today announced Druva inSync 4.1 Enterprise, an industry-first application that delivers near-instantaneous automated backups of laptop computers – ten times the speed of competitive offerings – while enabling simple one-click restores of any file or backup volume. The application also provides guaranteed 100 percent accuracy in deduplication for backups and restores.

With Druva inSync, Druva uniquely addresses an unresolved industry challenge: 73 percent of laptop users cite “intrusive backups” as a major obstacle to their productivity. Druva inSync systematically tackles issues common in the enterprise, ensuring quick time-to-productivity and making comprehensive, enterprise-wide laptop backup a reality.

Eliminates installation challenges: With Druva inSync, laptop upgrades to install the inSync client software are “pushed” to users, and no user involvement or IT support is required. On the IT side, server setup requires 20 minutes or less, ensuring quick time-to-deployment.

Overcomes complex backup processes: With Druva inSync, backups occur as a background process, require no user intervention and have no effect on laptop performance. Employing patented application-aware deduplication, inSync reduces backup-file sizes by 90 percent, delivering 10-times-faster backup than competing backup products.

Eliminates loss of unrecoverable files: Druva inSync restores any or all selected archived files with a single mouse click – not only on laptops but also on PCs, Macs, iPads and iPhones.

Druva inSync is also a boon to IT departments. While improving backup times by a factor of ten, Druva’s application-aware deduplication also enables a single storage server to serve up to ten times as many users as competing solutions. As a result, enterprises can slash storage expenses and maximize ROI. Furthermore, Druva’s “unbreakable backup” pledge ensures that backups will succeed even over the weakest WAN links, regardless of real-world network limitations. And because IT departments can now deliver complete enterprise endpoint protection, they can prevent loss of intellectual property in files that have been created on individual laptops and make those files available throughout the enterprise.

Designed and Optimized for Laptops

Druva inSync Enterprise overcomes the shortcomings of existing, server-based solutions developed for enterprise tape backup and adapted for laptops, which often have compromises in features, functionality or performance. It also overcomes the risks of cloud-based backup solutions, which lack centralized IT control and often present security and compliance concerns. With Druva inSync – designed and optimized specifically for laptop backup – users can continue their work without interruption or compromises in performance, IT retains full control of network performance and full endpoint security is guaranteed.

With Druva inSync Enterprise, the company has addressed an escalating global challenge: corporate data loss has grown 260 percent annually since 2009. “Exacerbating the challenge, over 28 percent of all corporate data resides exclusively on laptop computers, and a staggering 17 percent of those laptops lose data that cannot be recovered,” said Jaspreet Singh, cofounder and CEO of Druva. “A late-2010 report sponsored by Intel estimated the cost of a lost laptop computer – aggregating the costs of lost business data, time and hardware – at $25,000. Understanding the risks to enterprises and their staffs, Druva determined that it would provide tools enterprises can deploy rapidly to reduce the number of unrecoverable files to zero. Druva inSync is the result of our vision and efforts.”

Early Customer Traction

“We needed a reliable backup tool in case of unrecoverable Microsoft Windows crashes, lost laptops, damaged hard disks or virus outbreaks,” said Hans Vermaak, project lead, Xerox Corporation. “Today we’re realizing great savings on storage with Druva inSync, and we now have visibility into the information assets created by our employees. And employees say they are pleased that inSync protects their work as it operates in the background, that it has no effect on laptop performance and that they can retrieve backup files rapidly from any point in the past.”

“Backing up data on edge devices presents a bandwidth challenge, especially for remote and mobile workers who transmit backup data over long distances. Deduplication helps, but the processing required could be disruptive to performance or the endpoint user’s experience,” said Lauren Whitehouse, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “Druva inSync’s application-aware deduplication, combined with its innovative approach to performance guarantees through WAN optimization and seamless scalability, gives the company an edge in overcoming the typical pain points for endpoint backup and recovery, as well as in winning versus other solutions in the market.”

Rapid Deployment Across the Enterprise

InSync’s rapid deployment and seamless scalability enable small and midsize enterprises to institute an automated backup methodology for thousands of users in a matter of hours. Druva inSync consists of the inSync Enterprise Server and the inSync client, which together deliver transparent, nonintrusive backups; opportunistic scheduling according to availability of bandwidth; high scalability; integral encryption and an intuitive graphical interface to monitor and manage backups.

inSync Enterprise Server runs on a dedicated server and easily scales to serve terabytes of enterprise data. The server accepts backup and restore requests on published IP addresses using a 256-byte SSL-encrypted channel and stores them locally on 256-bit AES encrypted storage. The server also offers intelligent user and storage capacity management, enabling the administrator to create and control centralized backup policies. Advanced reporting provides alerts as required, as well as reports of server health and user statistics. Up to 2,000 laptops are supportable on a single license.
inSync Enterprise Client is a host-based soft driver installed on the laptop. It can be installed by users in less than 20 minutes with a simple five-step procedure. Its client-triggered backup architecture enables high levels of scalability and security. It also incorporates a powerful WAN optimizer to automatically prioritize network bandwidth and schedule backup bandwidth as a percentage of overall network bandwidth. Application-aware data deduplication eliminates duplicate data and delivers up to 10-times-higher backup speeds than competitive offerings, guaranteed 100 percent accuracy, and 90 percent savings in bandwidth and storage.

Pricing and Availability

Druva inSync is available now. Pricing starts at $40 per inSync client. A single inSync server license supports up to 2,000 users. The inSync iPad and iPhone application is included; it supports the iOS3 and 4.x operating systems, and will support future operating systems. Volume discounts are available. For more information, contact Druva at (408) 600-2783 or info@druva.com.
