Business Case
Capita has staff based across the UK, many of them from home, and a significant number of users travel regularly. In this environment data backup is always a challenge and Capita was looking for a scalable solution to backup up to 6,000 critical corporate laptops centrally to an enterprise data centre over their remote access VPN.
Average data per laptop is about 6 GB. Backing up and retaining this data with traditional backup software needed about 36 TB. "Our security policies ruled out the use of local backup devices. We needed a secure but low overhead networked solution", said Ian Gates.
Another concern was supporting the remote users. "Since most of the users are remote, I was concerned about user adoption, policy management and troubleshooting", adds Terry Walton.
The customer had already piloted Veritas Netbackup Desktop Laptop Option (DLO) and was not happy with its scalability and performance especially for the remote users.
Druva inSync Deployment and Results
inSync completely automated the laptop backup within the enterprise over LAN, VPN and WAN. Simple interface helped adoption and the data deduplication technology reduced the overheads, making backups almost invisible.
"I have installed it on my laptop. It's simple, fast and totally non-intrusive. Working very smoothly, just as I hoped", adds Ian Gates.
